The basic function of the Maintenance Engineering Manager is to manage the facilities and equipment of the plant; by leading, planning, managing, evaluating, coordinating and controlling maintenance activities, new projects, modifications and improvements in the various lines of plant processes. The Maintenance Engineering Manager must efficiently and effectively maintain all plant safety requirements as required by OSHA, the operational reliability of the plant infrastructure (power, air and dust collection systems), and the operational reliability and performance in all production and support machines. This position is responsible to lead and foster a well-trained and motivated staff continuously developing and encouraging all staff to achieve greater knowledge and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Strong knowledge of the operations of wood remanufacturing, including related machinery and processes
Strong knowledge of overall PLC programs and functions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Superior leadership and supervisory skills, training skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities for subordinates
Ability to be proactive rather than reactive in setting priorities on projects and establishing and following a preventative maintenance program
Possess excellent communication skills including fundamental math and writing skills
Possess personal computer skills including use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Autocad, Project and Microsoft Outlook.
Working familiarity with federal and state health and safety regulations.
Exhibit strong listening skills, and exhibit objective and independent thinking
Must maintain the ability to evaluate candidates for a job, successfully recruit, manage and develop subordinates of his team.
Must have industry knowledge or contacts with specialized technical consultants available for emergency support.
Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to five (5) hours).
Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds to the waste.
Bachelors Degree or Vocational Technical Degree in Industrial Maintenance Mechanics or Engineering is highly desired. 5-10 years of equivalent experience in a supervisory role overseeing staff in a similar manufacturing environment is desired.
Must possess a valid California driver s license with a clean driving record and insurance coverage during employment.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, the manager must be able to perform each duty and responsibility in a safe and satisfactory manner.
Plant Safety and Security:
Assist in determination of root cause of issues causing safety issues, poor quality, or poor productivity.*
Throughout the plant site, maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times. *
Ensure the use of good safety practices by employees and external personnel, assisting in the maintenance of the plant building, infrastructure, and equipment.*
Identify and report risks that could affect plant operations or the performance of maintenance tasks, and implementing control measures. Ensure that practices meet applicable local or state code (i.E. Building, electrical, etc.).*
Responsible for compliance with all maintenance, and preventative maintenance programs to ensure the achievement of product quality standards for all products. This will require a continuous assessment of plant machinery, quality testing and by investigating the claims of all customers. It s important that corrective and preventive actions and recommendations be made on an ongoing basis.*
Responsible for meeting all quality improvement programs that involve maintenance of equipment and maintenance service. This will require an ongoing review of the remanufacturing process in order to improve product quality and/or performance. Specific recommendations and new ideas will be reviewed with the management team. It s important that corrective and preventive actions and recommendations be made on an ongoing basis.*
Plant Maintenance and Operations:
In conjunction with GM, prioritize plant maintenance, machine maintenance and projects. This will include an ongoing preventative maintenance program.*
Responsible for the creation (and ongoing adjustments) of an approved monthly plant-wide maintenance schedule in accordance with the policies, procedures and business priorities. *
Responsible for the control and monitoring of all preventative maintenance, maintenance, and projects as to compliance with established time objectives.*
Meet weekly with the Area Managers to review the performance of the plant equipment. This would include a daily review of downtime and production reports, and comparing actual production with theoretical capacity.*
Review plant operations and maintain and update key parts inventory list to insure maximum plant uptime.*
Coordinate and consult with other department managers and supervisors to ensure preventive and reactive maintenance is efficiently and effectively undertaken. *
In conjunction with the General Manager coordinate applicable programming budget for the purchase of spare parts supplies, annual maintenances, new projects, modifications and improvements to protect the physical assets of the plant, and maintain or increase the future plant production capacity.*
